Bird Monkey with Flowers
Artist's comment:
I named the monkey in this painting Beulah in honor of a monkey I knew when I was a little girl.
The original Beulah lived in a cage in the basement of Katz Drug Store in Main Street in Kansas City when I was growing up. When my Dad and I would go places together we would usually go to Katz on the way home to visit Beulah and to shop for magazines and comic books.
Sometimes the lady at the drug store would take Beulah out of her cage so we could touch her. These visits represent some of the happiest moments of my childhood, and my Dad was always very happy to see Beulah too. My monkey paintings are about sheer childhood wonder and joy.
